A Muslim-American advocacy group today condemned a planned protest outside a Temecula Islamic center that wants to build a mosque in the city...

An e-mail and a posting on the Southwest Riverside County Tea Party website criticizes Islam as a political movement seeking world domination. It also accuses Muslims of killing dogs and treating women as second-class citizens. The missive encourages protesters to bring their Bibles, flags and dogs.

The executive director of Greater Los Angeles Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations denounced the protest in a news release.

"Californians of all faiths should repudiate those who would target a house of worship using tactics specifically designed to cause offense," Hussam Ayloush said. "National and state Tea Party leaders should explain why their movement has apparently deviated from its agenda on fiscal responsibility and limited government to the promotion of Islamophobia."

Dogs are used by Muslims for protection and hunting, but are not allowed in many Muslims' homes because they believe dogs' saliva inhibits pre-prayer cleansing rituals, Ayloush said...
